Cabernet Sauvignon 2001
A lush, complex and supple Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (with 5% Napa Merlot to round the edges) produced from grapes sourced from some of the finest 30 year-old vineyards in the Oak Knoll district. Fermented with native yeasts; followed by an extended maceration of 30 days with 4 times daily pump-over; this 2001 vintage (the first) was then allowed to mature in French Oak barrels (36% new) for 18 months before bottling in May 2003. The wine then rested in the cellar to release in October 2003.The opening notes of ripe black currants and vanilla progress to black berries, cassis and more vanilla on the mid palate. A long lingering finish to this medium, full-bodied wine accentuated with soft silky tannins.Enjoy now until 2011. Only 4000 cases produced.
90/100 Spicy, chocolate, leather, blackberry jam and nutmeg aromas. Smooth, round, suave (high-alcohol) style with ripe, light tannins. Again, big chocolate, vanilla, peppery, cassis jam flavours with a dry spicy, cedar, rootsy finish. Nice intensity and fruit. AG-ST
