five reviews
Cuvaison’s Carneros Pinot Noir and Chardonnay come from the 400-acre estate in the southern part of the Napa Valley. This cool climate vineyard allows near perfect conditions year after year to produce world-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Merlot. Controlling all farming aspects gives Cuvaison an advantage in producing the best quality fruit therefore minimizing over manipulation at the winery.

Carneros Chardonnay 2003
Produced from carefully selected fruit from vines up to 23-years-old. After a long cool fermentation it was aged four 8 months in small French oak (40% new) barrels before bottle ageing.
It has wonderful and expansive aromas of Golden Delicious apple and lemon drop; and. a mouth-filling rich texture with hazelnut, vanillin. and medley of fruit on the palate. A rich and fully ripe wine from an excellent vintage.
92/100 Spicy lees, creamy vanilla, baked apple aromas with a light floral, honey note. Ripe, round, rich, slightly fat palate with good acidity. Intense baked apple, creamy lees, citrus butter, mango, anise and vanilla flavours. A touch warm but great intensity. Good value too. AG-ST

Carneros Pinot Noir 2003
It has an aroma of raspberry and cherry with smoky overtones. On the palate there are nicely integrated flavours of black cherry and plum with a lingering finish of spice and tea. This is a complex Pinot Noir that delivers elegance, depth and drinkability.
"One of the best California pinots in B.C. at the moment... Look for an approachable spicy black cherry and strawberry jam nose with a smoky oak streak in the background. There's a fine intensity here with black cherries and spicy, compost flavours. The finish is long and powerful (high alcohol). This is super pinot at a reasonable price. Fabulous style, weight and fruit."

2000 Napa Syrah
Premiere Release
Syrah is characterized as a vigorous vine that produces fruit with deep, dark and dense qualities. For this debut vintage, wine from the Cuvaison Carneros estate was blended along with a few barrels from the equally expressive Bald Mountain vineyard in Napa Valley. Aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, this Syrah is flush with blackberry, boysenberry and black currant with a hint of white pepper and sandalwood on the nose. On the palate this wine is voluminous and mouth filling with a lush and slightly leathery texture typical of Syrah.
93/100 This is truly syrah and not shiraz with an intense blackberry, gamey, garrigue, saddle leather, smoky nose streaked with licorice and black plum. Ripe, round, smooth and dry with ripe, fine tannins. A bit alcoholic on the palate with very ripe black cherry, black plum, vanilla, smoky, peppery spicy flavours with a floral, licorice, chocolate finish. Well balanced with fine syrah character. Drink now or over the next 2-5 years. AG-ST
