LZ 2005

Rioja D.O.

This wine comes from the eastern part of Rioja, where some of the most interesting Rioja vineyards co-exist with centenary olive groves.  For two centuries, the same families cultivated and pruned these vineyards in the same traditional ways - then they met Telmo Rodriguez, one of the most talented winemakers in Spain and this exciting wine was born. This is a young Tempranillo wine that shows the full character of the grape and the climate and the soil from which it originates.  A very fashionable, juicy and lush un-oaked Rioja with expressive flavours of dark and red berry fruit  and a typical, slightly gamey nose surrounded by hints of plums. The good fruit and moderate tannins make this wine particularly good with grilled, roasted or stews of poultry and meats.

Basa 2006

Rueda D.O.

Literally “foundation,” expresses the revitalization of Spanish winemaking in recent years, based on a rediscovery of the potential of particular vineyards and microclimates.  The ancient town of Rueda is situated on the high plateau of Castile, in northwest Spain, and is increasingly known for excellent white wines, based on the Verdejo grape.  This example also has a small amount of Viura and a little Sauvignon Blanc.

A classic dry white, with freshness, fruit and character, it can be enjoyed by itself or with fish, poultry and salads.  Great on the deck!

Alma 2000

Navarra D.O.

Garnacha is an ancient vine variety, Spanish in origin, which is known in France as Grenache.  This fine example comes from the village of Aibar in Navarra, where vines up to a century old produce intensely flavoured grapes.

Telmo Rodriguez, Spain’s pioneering winemaker has made this wine for relishing right now.  The vivid red fruit flavours (with hints of herbs and pepper), are best enjoyed with meat, poultry, or cheese.  This wine is a steal!

Viña 105  2004

Cigales D.O.

The organically grown 17-year-old vines are stressed to the maximum on the stony terraces of the Ribero del Pisuerga. Telmo Rodriguez uses the unique characteristics and qualities to produce this expressive red wine.  The 95% Tempranillo and 5% Garnacha grapes were hand picked in mid October and soft vinified in stainless steel to keep the grapes’ integrity. No wood is used.

A fresh, dry wine with loads of up front fruit and light tannins.  Best consumed at 17 degrees C within the next 2 to 3 years.  Goes very well with a variety of grilled vegetables, light meats, pheasant, quail, and mild cheeses.  Think of this for a BBQ!

Dehesa Gago 2004

Toro D.O.

Identified by the g imprinted on the label, it comes from the old name for a wild and rugged region of Toro, long famous as a source of strong wines and fierce bulls (Gago).

This vivid interpretation of the flavours of the Tempranillo grape combines vigorous character (a hint of baked earth) with rich generosity of fruit.

Particularly good with red meat, game or with wild mushrooms.
