__________
two reviews
In the heart of the Douro valley, first references of this estate date back to 1716. Purchased in 1818 by Antonia Bernando Ferreira, Quinta do Vallado has remained in the Ferreira family’s hands for 6 generations.
A new winery was completed in 1997 followed by the completion of the vineyard reconstruction in 1998. Currently there are 64 Ha under vine (34 Ha old vines and 26 Ha new vines) producing some of the most exciting wines in Portugal.

Douro Tinto 2002
Produced from 30 to 60 year old vines of primarily Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Nacional, Sousão and Touriga França and a field plant of over 20 other varieties. The individual grapes varieties were foot trodden in lagares before being transferred to separate stainless steel tanks for a 6 to 8 day temperature controlled fermentation. They were then aged in stainless steels tanks until August 2002 when the final blend was made without fining or filtration and further bottle aged for one year before release.
The result is a well structured robust wine with round tannins, mature red fruit aromas and a complex and very long finish. Best enjoyed at room temperature with roasted meats and hard aged cheeses.
Wine Spectator Best Value
90 Points Nice concentration and intensity to this full-bodied table wine, with an alluring aroma of roasted meat and spice. (May 31, 2004)

Douro Branco 2004
Only the second vintage from the renovated vineyards but already highly acclaimed. It has a fresh, aromatic nose which is very contemporary in style; a fruity palate with a hint of herbs and, lots of good acid structure. Produced from Malvasia Fina, Codega and Rabigato grapes of which 90% was fermented in stainless steel and blended with 10% French oak barrel fermented wine. Incredibly delicate, aromatic and pleasing to the nose and palate. A wine to be enjoyed with appetizers, soups and seafood courses. Serve chilled but not too cold.
