Douro Tinto 1999

This fine 1999 Douro Red wine, made from Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional and Tinto Cão, was foot trodden in open “lagares” for one week. It was then aged in French oak barrels until bottling, unfined and unfiltered, in 2001. It has intense plumy and flowery aromas, with hints of orange peel given by the very mature Touriga Nacional. In the mouth it is soft, velvety and fruity with a long finish. This wine fully reflects the field blend of the Quinta and the intensity of its climate and soil characteristics.

Touriga Nacional Douro 2000

The 2000 Touriga Nacional Douro Red wine is produced from 100% Touriga Nacional grapes. Foot trodden in open “lagares” for more than one week, then aged in French oak barriques until bottling, unfined and unfiltered, in the early part of 2002. It has very intense chocolate and red berry aromas with hints of orange, very characteristic of the grape variety at Quinta da Portela. It is full and very intense on the mouth and has a very long finish. It has a very long bottle age potential and will develop into perfection with several more years of bottle maturity.

Wine Spectator 92  Concentrated, with mouth coating flavors of cassis, raspberry and boysenberry matched with notes of truffle and mineral.
