1999 Vintage Port
Gold Medal - International Wine Challenge 2002 (London, UK)
What a vintage from this small property owned by Cristiano van Zeller. A perfect blend of 50% Touriga Nacional, 24% Tinta Roriz, 23% Touriga Francesa, and 3% Tinto Cão. Estate produced and aged in old Port wood (a tradition found in the most high quality Vintage Port producers) prior to bottling, it has a very concentrated mature fruit flavours of plums and cherries with soft velvety tannins and very balanced acidity. On the taste there is a perfect balance among its various components – acidity, alcohol level, tannins, sweetness, and fruit – with a slightly noticeable aroma of the old Port wood ageing. The 1999 ports have, comparably, more obvious fruit intensity than the 1994’s but a more subtle and less pronounced body structure. One of the beauties of this wine is that it will live for a long time but will be perfect for enjoyment from a very early age.
