| DOC Aglianico del Vulture Le Vigne a Capanno 2004 Vigne a Capanno is named after a now obsolete vine-training method whereby three canes of the vine were braided together and held up by a single stake. Capanno is also the name of the small shed where the vineyard workers stored their tools. A single vineyard wine made from 100% Aglianico grapes grown on the volcanic soil of the Basilicata region. It is deep and dark red in colour, intensely flavoured with a medium to full-bodied texture. Aromas of chocolate, black cherries with hints of minerality are mirrored on the palate, A little rustic when young but with age (and this is a wine that can age wonderfully in the bottle for up to 20 years), the tannins soften and become quite silky. | Starsa igt Basilicata Rosso 2007Produced from 100% Aglianico grapes grown on volcanic soils at an altitude of 500m, it is hand harvested in late October. After the fermentations (including malolactic), the wine is aged for a short period in Slavonian oak casks to preserve the fragrance of the Aglianico grape. It is ruby red and clear, its intense, powerful and warm aromas and flavours linger. Full-bodied and smooth, it shows layers of sweet rich spice and aromatic wood aromas. This wine delivers! 88/100 "A fine improvement over the meaty resiny ’04. The ’07 is fresher with more floral/minerality and earthy dusty black fruit. A true aglianico, just different enough to be interesting and dry enough to be very meat friendly. T-bones anyone?"
