Château de Tracy

http://www.chateau-de-tracy.com

Château de Tracy produces some of the best Pouilly-Fumé in the region. Founded in the 1396 and with mention of having vineyards then, Château de Tracy really came into ints own in the 1950s.

The slightly cooler temperate climate in the valley on the right bank of the Loire where the vineyards stand allow the grapes to ripen more slowly than warmer regions, coupled with the flintly soils give a full and fresh minerality to the wines.   These magnificent Sauvignon Blancs evolve remarkably well over time.

AOC Pouilly Fumé 2005 Château de Tracy

A first selection of the best cuvées from 24 year old vines is made to determine the final blend of Château de Tracy.

The nose is fresh and aromatic, with persistant, yet delicate, citrus fruit aromas (mainly lime). On the palate, this Sauvignon Blanc has a clean, balanced and fresh attack with a long finish of citrus fruit aromas.

Wine_Spectator.gif  91 Points  "Lots of herb and straw aromas give way to a rich yet racy palate of lemon verbena, gooseberry and chalk.  Long stony finish has mouthwatering acidity. Lovely."

AOC Pouilly Fumé 2004 H-D Haut Densité du Château de Tracy

This wine is produced from high-density vines (17,000 vines per hectare; the standard density for the appellation is 7,000 vines per hectare). Competition between the vines is therefore greater. Each plant has to draw its reserves from deep within the soil. Vigorous growth is controlled and the plants are healthier.

Only the juice from the slow, gentle pressing, which produces the highest quality must, was kept for the Cuvée ‘Haute Densité. No chaptalisation was necessary, due to the exceptional maturityof the grapes.  85% of the wine was matured for one year in the vats, with regular stirring of the lees (bâtonnage). The remaining 15% was fermented and aged in oak barrels. The two wines were then blended and matured for a further year to enhance the natural harmony and complexity of the wine.

The nose is rich and complex with a succession of aromas of red fruits, quince, citrus with a hint of minerality.  The palate has a full, fresh attack with the mid palate showing the complexity of this wine: rich and silky smooth, balanced by fresh mineral notes. The final flavour is long, predominantly of aromatic red fruits underpinned by the persistant minerality and elegant structure of the wine.

AOC Pouilly Fumé 2007 Mademoiselle de T

This wine displays all the characteristics of the Sauvignon grape and the soil on which it is grown.

It has a typical nose with intense citrus fruits (predominantly lemon) and white flowers. And, on the palate, the wine is fresh and appetizing with plenty of fruit, giving a lovely balance.

To be enjoyed anytime.
