Monmousseau, JM

http://www.monmousseau.com/

The tradition started in 1886 by Alcide Monmousseau, continues today.  He had the insight to realize the potential of the Touraine (in the Loire Valley, 200-km south west of Paris) as a region that could produce remarkably fine wines. He acquired 15 km of galleries, with their year-round 12°C temperature, left behind from the quarrying of the limestone used in the construction of the nearby famous Châteaux Amboise, Chaumont, Chenonceaux, et cetera to store his wines.

His son Justin, noted that aside from the grapes being different from the Champagne, all other conditions of soil and temperature were remarkably the same and he began the producing outstanding sparkling wines at the turn of the 20th Century.

The company has grown, and besides their highly regarded Méthode Traditionnelle wines, they produce the other great red and white wines from the Loire. The reputation of Monmousseau wines has resulted in their appointments as suppliers of prestigious sparkling wines to the Royal courts of Europe since the turn of the 20th Century.

AOC Chinon 2004 - Domaine du Grand Bréviande

Chinon at its best - amazing what Cabernet Franc from the Loire offers!

Beautiful ruby colour. A subtle and intense bouquet of red fruit with a note of violets, which is mirrored on the palate.

Fleshy but elegant, this wine also has a good structure which will enable it to harmoniously age for several years although it may be enjoyed immensely when young and vibrant..

Cuvée JM Brut 2005 AC Touraine

Produced in every respect like the wines from Champagne, as well as a minimum 2 years sur lies; the full remuage process prior to disgorging and 9 weeks rest after, this 100% Chenin Blanc wine is exceptional in its quality and value.  Possessing a slightly fruity nose, the fresh aromas of Chenin are maintained by a good reserve of acidity, resulting in a pleasant roundness.  It has very abundant, long-lasting and elegant bubbles and a pale yellow crystal-clear colour.

Served at 6/8oC, it is ideal as an aperitif as well as a good match for light delicatessen, or to go with the whole meal, white meat, fish and white sauce.

Cuvée JM Brut Rosé AC Touraine

The 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Gamay grapes are vinified as white wines for this cuvée according to the Méthode Traditionnelle process. Its secondary fermentation on laths and a maturation of 18 months in troglodyte caves at a natural and constant temperature of 12°C, provide it with a special elegance. It is very refined.

Gamay in the Loire tends to be light and very fruity and have low levels of alcohol while Cabernet Franc: also known as Breton produces a well-structured, fragrant quality wine. According to the soil, it can have raspberry or violet aromas. It is a perfect complement for the Gamay grape, to which it adds its 'winey ' appearance and structure in blending.

Its colour is a delicate salmon pink. The bubbles are very fine and abundant, and are long-lasting in the flute. Its bouquet is very fruity. Hints of raspberry are noticeable and forecast the explosion of aromas of summer fruit on the palate. It is both as lively, round, and supple. Served at 6- 8°C, it will offer all its complexity and delicacy. Perfect as an aperitif, yet it is a surprisingly versatile wine that can compliment many lighter style cusisine such as Asian cuisine or poultry. Of course it is also delicious with chocolate cake.
