Domaine du Haut-Censy

In the Middle Ages, the fame of Le Domaine du Sancy was so great that the local landlord reserved for his own table a part of the production to be paid as a tax by the ancestors of Monsieur François Riviére, the current proprietor and winemaker.  The name of this tax was "cens" which later became "cency" and today "censy."

AOC Muscadet Sèvre & Maine Sur Lie 2008 Cuvée du Haut-Censy

Le Domaine du Sancy is a property of 16 Ha. located on the top of sunny hillsides in the superior Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine district, just between the Sèvre and the Maine rivers in the village of Maisdon sur Sèvre (west Loire).

The soil, a mixture of silicate and clay, and the very old tradition of winemaking maintained through the centuries by the Riviére family, produces a pale gold coloured, fresh, light and fruity top quality Muscadet which can be kept for two or three years. Wonderful with all fish and seafood but best with fresh oysters!
