Château Gaudrelle

http://www.chateaugaudrelle.com/

It is a very old vineyard owned by Alexander Monmousseau. located in Vouvray, first mentioned in the District Archives of Tours in the 1500's.

The 14 hectares of south facing vineyards are are composed of argilleous and chalky soil.  Chenin grown this way produces off-dry to sweet wines depending on the vintage. The taste of this wine is characterized by quince fruit and acacia flower.  Th average production is a mere 6,500 cases.

Like his father, grand father and great grand-father before him, Alexandre manages the vineyards by only natural means - no insecticides or herbicides have even been used in over 100 years.

AOC Vouvray 2007 Sec .375L

This 100% Chenin Blanc (Pineau de Loire) was assembled from the three different cru of the property with vines averaging 40+ years of age and one Ha being 95+ years old . Hand picked, each was vinified in its own separate manner to bring out its specific character (35% botrytised grapes) then blended together just prior to bottling in May 2008.

Acacia flowers, honey suckle and quince dominate the nose and flavours; great acid balance ensures a long life.  Wonderful with crustations and mollusks.

This 100% Chenin Blanc (Pineau de Loire) was assembled from three different cru of the property*: Clos le Vigneau; les Gués d'Amants; la Gaudrelle. A slow press over 4 hours released the natural richness (11% sugar) followed by a 12 week cool fermentation using only indigenous yeasts was carried out in 600L old oak barrels that are 30 to 60 years old (no new wood).
