A.O.C. Costières de Nîmes 2000
A sincere Estate wine made up of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache hand-picked fruit from vines that average 42 years of age growing in flint and «Gress» (pebbles). The vineyards were contentiously managed to produce quality rather than quantity as less than 1.7 Tonnes of fruit per Ha were harvested which produced only 3,700 cases. De-stemmed prior to crushing, the grapes underwent a cold maceration for 3 to 4 days in order to extract the colour and aroma of the fruit followed by controlled fermentation for another 6 days. Round, aromatic and spicy with good fruit on the palate and a medium body. Best enjoyed with grilled meats, poultry and vegetables; and, any dishes savoury enhanced with rosemary, sage, thyme, and/or oregano.
88/100 "Mas Aupellière is an enticing blend of 80 per cent syrah and 20 per cent Grenache all hand-picked fruit from vines that average 42 years of age. Look for a nose of black cherry/raspberry jam with almonds and a hint of prunes and leather. Plenty of cherry, gamy/earthy flavours make this a winner in the mouth. It is both well balanced and elegant with good acidity and a jammy (confiture) finish. Well made and tasty. Drink now." AG-ST
