The Loire Valley, 200 kilometres south east of Paris, is home to the eleven single natually sustained vineyard Sancerres produced by Fouassier Père et Fils, now with its tenth generation of family members (cousins Paul and Benoit) working to ever improve and innovate.

Known for their intensity of flavour, bright colour and classical varietal aromas and flavours, the eleven are always highly rated and in high demand. Also produced is one single vineyard red wine (Pinot Noir), L'etourneau AOC Sancerre Rouge.

In 2011, ECOCERT and BIODYVIN recognizing Domaine Fouassier as 100% compliant with all international organic and biodynamic guidelines, granted certification.

2009 AOC Sancerre Rouge L'etourneau

Pinot Noir

The vineyard is planted on on clayey-chalky soil with a South-South-East orientation in the Sancerre district. Only 5% of all wine made in this region is Sancerre Rouge. This single Biodynamic vineyard wine is made from grapes grown on 30 to 35 year old vines managed naturally; no insecticides or herbicides are ever used. After fermentation and vinification, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months prior to bottling and release.

This wine should not be confused or compared with Pinot Noir from Burgundy. A lighter style of Pinot Noir that should be served slightly chilled to 13 to 15 degrees Celsius. It has a place of honour on a table with roasted red meat, meats in sauces, and at the end of the meal with cheeses such as Chévre.
