The 120 Ha vineyard of Haras de Pirque is located on the foothills of the Andes mountains at the start of the Maipo Valley near Pirque.  Under the leadership of Alvaro Espinoza, the oenologists and winemakers, using the most modern techniques and equipment in the unique horseshoe shaped winery; employing I.P.M. techniques in the vineyards to control pest and disease; have taken low yield perfectly ripe fruit possessing huge flavour and concentration and have created wines with great personality oriented to sophisticated customers who understand complexity and quality.

Equus Chardonnay 2001

The estate grown 100% Chardonnay grapes were harvested during the first and second week of March. The alcoholic fermentation was made in stainless steel vats at 15° C.  Forty percent of the mixture went through a further malolactic fermentation in American and French oak barrels and then aged for 6 months before blending and bottling.Deep yellow, with greenish highlights in colour; it possesses intense aromas of ripe tropical fruit with toasty oak characteristics. Expressive. With 4.3 g/L residual sugar, this wine has great body; is soft and well-balanced with a luscious fruity expression on the palate.  4,000 cases produced.

This estate produced and bottled 100% Cabernet Sauvignon wine from the Maipo Valley is a real mouthful.  After the harvest in April, alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel vats with a post fermentation maceration that lasted 2 weeks.  Fifty percent of the wine was aged for 8 months in French oak barrels and the final blending took place in December of the same year.Deep purple red in colour; it has intense and highly complex aromas of ripe black fruit, berries, cassis, dried fruit, cherries with wood notes. Good volume and well-structured by smooth mature tannins. Great complexity with a fine finish.  Only 5,000 cases produced.
