With the acquisition of a 2,000 hectare estate in the Maipo Valley, 50 kilometers west of Santiago, in 1993 Casa Rivas was born.   The optimal sites, never before planted, for the 221 Ha of vineyards were determined after careful study.  The unique characteristics of the top quality wines produced on the estate are determined by the terroir.  These are biodynamic vineyards and managed by natural means to control pests and disease.

Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2003

This estate wine was produced in María Pinto, in the Maipo valley west of Santiago, where nocturnal sea breezes temper a harsh daytime heat permitting the perfect ripening of fruit ensuring pleasant aromas and flavours. The grapes were hand-harvested in three different periods, allowing for different fruit ripening to obtain diverse aromas and flavours according to the harvest time. 100% of the fermentation was done in stainless steel tanks at a temperature of 12 - 14º Celsius; and once completed the wine was kept over the less for additional 15 days.This wine has attractive citrus aromas with floral undertones, delightfully fresh and clean on the palate with lingering gooseberry flavours.

  88/100 Floral, grassy, gooseberry, passion fruit nose with a touch of matchstick. Dry, fresh, crisp but elegant entry. Big gooseberry, mineral, kiwi, grapefruit flavours with a touch of melon. Full, balanced flavours front to back with very crisp acidity. Well made.  AG-ST

86/100  There's no mistaking the Carménère nose of fresh bell pepper, spice and earth. The flavours are mix of leafy spicy peppery black fruit with quite a long earthy spicy finish.  A savoury flavoured roast chicken would be the perfect match here.  AG-ST
