The Blue Pyrenees Estate vineyards nestle in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountain range in western Victoria, Australia. The wines express their cool climate terroir.

BLUE PYRENEES

Victoria Shiraz 2002

Gold Medal - International Wine & Spirit Competition 2003 (London, UK)

The winemakers at Blue Pyrenees selected outstanding parcels of fruit from low yielding vines of the region. The opulent nose shows red and black berry fruits and a touch of spice.  The palate is generous and full, with excellent fruit flavours with subtle oak and medium tannin finish.  Drinking well now, it will reward cellaring. Suggested food combinations include kangaroo fillets (where available), roasted and grilled meats and game, and medium cheeses.

87/100 Typical Blue Pyrenees: chocolate, leather, cola, licorice aromas with some peppery notes. The entry is round and dry with some light, lean tannin. On the palate more spicy, black cherry, smoky, licorice cola flavours. An elegant shiraz with a dry and somewhat acidic finish.   AG-ST

The Leydens Vale range of varietal wines takes its name from John Leyden, one of the original landholders of the Blue Pyrenees Estate in the 1880's. The wines under this label are the result of meticulous selection of premium quality fruit from the most respected grape- growing regions of Australia.

Nota Bene -  Leydens Vale is only available in Alberta in limited quantities.

Leydens Vale Shiraz 1997

To achieve this classic representation of the Shiraz grape variety, this wine was crafted from premium parcels of  Blue Pyrenees Estate (44%), Mornington (5%),  McLaren Vale (24%) and Big Rivers (37%) fruit which was matured for 18 months in French oak creating a wine of intense flavours with fine-grained tannins and elegant structure. This wine is a bright, deep red colour.  On the nose it shows rich ripe, minty, dark berry aromas.  The palate is medium-bodied, featuring sweet plumy fruit, good concentration and fine tannin grip. Suggested food combinations include barbecued beef, kangaroo fillets, roast pork, red-sauced pasta dishes and mature cheeses.
